The Young Child program is for children 2 and 3 years old
Children have access to a wealth of enriching Montessori materials in a nurturing, creative, consistent environment under the care of a Montessori Directress and assistant, who are specialists in the physical and psychological needs of this age group. The Young Child classroom serves as a bridge between home and school, providing students individualized attention as they expand their awareness and mastery of a wider social and physical environment.
Just as in the Early Childhood program, there is plenty of time for children to work with Montessori materials, all sized appropriately for their hands and bodies. Work occurs in each of the five classroom areas: Practical Life, including skills such as pouring, spooning, and zipping; Sensorial, including recognition and classification of colors, shapes, and textures; Language, Math and Cultural. Because Dr. Montessori recognized that children at this age learn primarily through their five senses, our focus is to help lead them toward independence, self-confidence, perseverance and self-direction; as well as helping them to discern, manipulate and categorize the world around them sensorially.
As educators, we recognize the important role that parents play in their children's intellectual, social and spiritual growth. MPA welcomes parents as partners in their child's education, supporting home-school communication; encouraging classroom visits; hosting parent enrichment nights throughout the year; and encouraging school-wide volunteer opportunities.
