“If education is always to be conceived along the same antiquated lines of a mere transmission of knowledge, there is little to be hoped from it in the bettering of man’s future. For what is the use of transmitting knowledge if the individual’s total development lags behind?” –Maria Montessori
I have been with MPA since I turned 18 in 2003. I worked in the aftercare program from 2003-2008. I helped to develop a middle school program and implemented it in the Fall of 2008 with MPA’s first middle school class. I have now been teaching the middle school program for 6 years, and recently we added a 9th grade curriculum to the program in 2013.
Currently I live in Belvidere, where my father and his family have lived since the late 1800s. I have been married since 2007 to my wonderful husband. If I were not teaching as a career, I would most likely become a chef and work in my parents restaurant (The Brick Cafe and Gallery). Montessori impacted me at a very impressionable age. I was so excited by what I saw, that after 2 years of college I changed my major to education because I knew I wanted to be a part of the school. I earned Bachelors in Elementary Education with a middle school endorsement. I also earned my Masters in Montessori education in 2012. I love teaching adolescents and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
In my spare time I love cooking, reading, and writing. I also am a music addict, and I love discovering new tunes. In the future I would like to publish a book on early adolescence. (I have more than enough writing material! :))
